Now that the Brazilian variant of the coronavirus has been confirmed in Minnesota, state health officials are stressing:

“This new finding underscores the importance of COVID-19 testing, as well as continued efforts by all of us to limit the spread of the virus.”

The State Health Department’s Dr. Ruth Lynfield says the patient lives in the Twin Cities and became ill the first week of January after a trip to Brazil. Officials say it’s not clear whether this new variant causes more severe disease.
