The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) is teaming with Dr. Rose Marie Leslie–a family medicine physician with nearly 1 million followers on TikTok–in a social media campaign to help combat a growing trend of e-cigarette dependence among teens who vape. The MDH’s Sharrilyn Helgertz says:

“We know that the vaping rate is still very high–the latest data is the 2020 Minnesota Youth Tobacco Survey–and high schoolers we have about 19.3% of high school students have vaped in the past 30 days and 2.9% of middle schoolers have vaped in the past 30 days.”

Helgertz says the 2020 Minnesota Youth Tobacco Survey (MYTS) revealed around 70-percent of Minnesota teens who used an e-cigarette in the past 30 days reported signs of e-cigarette dependence.
