(Minneapolis, MN) — Minneapolis voters reject a proposal to replace the city’s police department with a department of public safety. The charter amendment needed 51 percent of the vote to pass but it fell short Tuesday by over ten percent. Also Tuesday voters passed a charter amendment that transfers more power from the Minneapolis city council to the mayor. Mayor Jacob Frey leads ranked-choice voting by a wide margin but he hasn’t reached a majority of votes to officially secure reelection.
