The Minnesota Department of Transportation is imploring drivers to stick with the posted detour route for roundabout construction at Highway 22 and Blue Earth County Road 90.

District 7 Public Affairs Coordinator Anne Wolff said the detour is available on their website, on 511 MN, and signs are posted, showing drivers should be, “Using Stadium Road to Monks and accessing from the back. Some folks have tried to use Pohl Road, which is a Mankato Township road. With some elevated traffic there that happened early in the week or through the weekend after the closure, Mankato Township decided to close that stretch of road from 200th Street south to County Road 90.”

Wolff said that’s because Pohl Road wasn’t designed to handle high traffic volumes and, “It’s just hard on the road. It’s not meant to handle that level of traffic or an increase in traffic – that stretch especially.”

The weather hasn’t exactly been cooperative since the project began, but Wolff said work is moving along. She said crews had, “A little bit of a slow start just due to the rain out of the gate here but they had removal yesterday of the roadway and they’ll start building that back up.”

She added that the project on Highway 22 and County Road 15 is also progressing well. Highway 15 is now back open, but the work on Highway 22 south of Beauford continues and the detour remains in place. “We’ve got a schedule to stick to and we’ll just hope for more blue sky days over the next month here, couple months.”
