The Minnesota Department of Transportation is making a minor change to the Rural Intersection Conflict Warning System (RICWS) at Highway 60 and Cottonwood County Road 1 on Thursday.

It’s been in place near Mountain Lake since 2015 and is meant to improve safety and reduce crashes at the intersection.

MnDOT is reprogramming the system to light the electronic “TRAFFIC APPROACHING” signs facing County Road 1 only when traffic is present on Highway 60.

There are a number of RICWS systems in place on Minnesota highways, but only two are in south-central Minnesota – the one at Mountain Lake and the other on Highway 15 near Klossner.
