A no-wake restriction has been placed on Lake George, Lake Ballantyne, Duck Lake and Madison Lake in Blue Earth County.

The restrictions take effect immediately due to abnormally high water levels following recent rains that have created shoreline erosion concerns and encroachment on surrounding homes and cabins. Some docks on the lakes have been submerged and debris has been washed into the lakes creating a boating hazard.

Le Sueur and Martin Counties have put “Slow No Wake” restrictions on all lakes countywide. That means boaters have to operate at the slowest speed possible to maintain steerage but no more than five miles per hour.

Officials from all three departments say they will keep an eye on the lake levels in order to lift the restrictions as soon as possible.
