An Owatonna mother is facing two felony domestic assault charges and one count of malicious punishment of a child, after staff at a family services center in Blue Earth County say she yanked her daughter up from the floor by her arm and they pulled the child by the hair on Monday.
Blue Earth County Sheriff’s officials say 27-year-old Jillian Larson got angry when she told the child to go upstairs to their room and the little girl continued to play. After staff separated the mother and child, the criminal complaint shows Larson threatened to pack up her things and leave the facility but they wouldn’t allow her to leave with the child during the blizzard.
Larson admitted to investigators that she grabbed the child by the arm while the girl was throwing a tantrum, but said she didn’t intend to grab her by the hair.
A records check shows Larson has a prior conviction for second-degree assault, as well as a fifth degree assault felony for violating a restraining order.
