A Watonwan County mother and son are accused of embezzling tens of thousands of dollars from a Lewisville construction company over the course of seven years.
The criminal complaint shows that 53-year-old Tami Else of Lewisville was the business manager for Altenburg Construction, and between 2010 and 2017 she is accused of writing unauthorized checks, making unauthorized credit card purchases, and using an Automated Clearing House to siphon money from the company’s account. Investigators say the losses add up to more than $163,000.
In a separate report, Else is accused of hiring her son, 29-year-old Jason Gens, and eventually promoting him to assistant office manager. Gens is accused of creating an Amazon account in the business’ name and using the company credit card to make several purchases. Police also say some of Gens’ personal bills were paid with the card, and that Else made cash payments to him as well. It all added up to nearly $15,000.
Else is charged with seven felonies, and Gens with three.
Both will be in court on March 13th.
