The National Association of Letter Carrier’s annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is Saturday.
Local union President Chris Krosch said a multitude of volunteers will be going mailbox-to-mailbox, picking up bags of canned and box foods to help the local hungry.
“This is our 26th year doing it for the letter carriers, Picking up food. It goes to the local food shelves. I think in the last three years we’ve kind of peaked out at between 18,000 and 20,000 pounds. So, we pick up quite a bit of food,” he explained.
Krosch is asking people to, “Get their food out to the mailbox, preferably, by 9:00 a.m. The postcards do say 10:00, but the volunteers start a little earlier now and they go out ahead of the carriers to pick them up – especially on the walking routes, that gets to be pretty heavy.”
Any nonperishable food is accepted.
