A new app from HealthPartners Institute and researchers at the University of Minnesota provides users with data about the health of their neighborhood during the COVID-19 pandemic. HealthPartners Dr. Bjorn Westgard says the app gives…

“Clear information on what they should do based on whatever is going on, whoever they’ve been in contact with, and then I think a lot of folks are kind of looking at all of these resources online in terms of counts and maps and that kind of things and we wanted to put both of those at people’s fingertips.”

The app is called “SafeDistance” and it crowdsources data down to the level of people’s census block groups. Dr. Westgard says data used in the app will not be used for-profit, and users will not be asked for identifiable information.
