New Senate Majority Leader Jeremy Miller of Winona says lawmakers are close to a deal on distributing $250 million in aid to front-line workers in a special session. But asked whether the Republican-led Senate might also fire state Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm over her handling of the pandemic in the same special session, Miller responded:

“I will assure that there are serious concerns about Commissioner Malcolm that we’ve heard from constituents, but I’ll also say that it’s an ongoing conversation within our caucus and we’ll have to see how it plays out.”

Governor Walz has been reluctant to call a special session over concern that Senate Republicans would oust Malcolm.
