A New Ulm man was airlifted to the Hennepin County Medical Center following an accident Wednesday morning on Highway 14 in New Ulm.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, 34-year old Gary Lee Lienig was stopped on County Road 37 when he went to make a left turn on westbound Highway 14 shortly before 8 a.m. A semi traveling eastbound on Highway 14 failed to stop at the stop sign and struck the Ford truck that Lienig was driving.

Lienig reportedly suffered non-life threatening injuries. He was initially taken to the New Ulm Hospital before being flown to Minneapolis.

The driver of the semi, 76-year old Fredrick Raymond Amberg of Olivia was uninjured.

The intersection is currently part of the detour for construction on Highway 14/15 in New Ulm.
