An 18-year-old from New Ulm is charged with assaulting a Mankato Police officer in a holding room at the Department of Public Safety.

The criminal complaint shows that police were called after Madison Schiller passed out at a business after suspected drug use. The officer discovered that there was already a warrant for her arrest and took her into custody.

Investigators say she continued to scream and cuss at the officer while in the holding cell, demanding to be allowed to call her mother. Schiller was given her phone, but after making the call refused to hand it back over.

Eventually she threw the phone at the officer, who said she then fought and struggled as he tried to put her in handcuffs.

Schiller said she didn’t mean to do it and she was just upset and mad.
