A North Mankato man is facing several charges after narrowly missing a Nicollet County Sheriff’s Deputy. Investigators say 46-year-old Richard Hanson was driving drunk when he nearly hit an officer standing next to a colleague’s squad car on Tyler Avenue in North Mankato.
Both deputies turned on their lights and sirens in an attempt to pull Hanson over, but the criminal complaint shows that he didn’t stop until he crashed into an electrical box on Webster Avenue.
Deputies say Hanson tested 0.17 on a breath test and admitted to having had seven or eight drinks. He claimed he didn’t remember what happened between leaving the bar and crashing his vehicle.
Hanson is charged with felony counts of attempted assault and running from police, and with gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor counts of drunk driving.
