An early Wednesday morning sewer main collapse is impacting businesses and homes in lower North Mankato.

Around 4 a.m., City Officials say the line on North River Drive, near Roadhouse 169 collapsed and homeowners are reporting that sewer lines have backed up into their basements. The City has since installed pumps to reduce further sewer backup and will remain in place while crews repair the pipe, which is expected to be back in operation on Friday.

Due to the collapse, some sewer water is bypassing the water treatment plant and is being pumped into the Minnesota River. Officials say there isn’t currently a health threat and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is analyzing water samples from the river.

The report says tap water is not affected and residents can continue to drink the water, cook and shower.
