A North Mankato man is behind bars in Nicollet County after a nearly four-hour standoff with numerous law enforcement agencies on Friday night.

Around 8 p.m., a call to the North Mankato Police Department stated that 59-year old Scott Douglas Johnston pointed a gun at two juvenile females. Police say Johnston then fled back to his residence in the 200 block of Cross Street. 

The Minnesota River Valley Tactical Response Team along with the DNR, Minnesota State Patrol, Blue Earth and Nicollet County Sheriff’s Offices and the North Mankato and Mankato Police Department responded to the scene. Authorities attempted to establish communication with the suspect, but were unsuccessful. Johnston was taken into custody at 11:55 p.m. without incident.

He was booked into the Nicollet County Jail at 12:45 a.m. on Saturday.

Felony charges of 2nd Degree Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and Threats of Violence are pending.
