A North Mankato woman is facing more than two dozen child abuse and domestic violence charges after what police say was years of abuse targeting her four daughters, ages 14, 11, 10, and one.

Investigators say 37-year-old Maria Esquivel beat her children with a belt numerous times; smashed one girl’s face into a brick wall repeatedly; and on several occasions scratched them, pinched their nipples an punishment, and twisted their lips until they bled.

The criminal complaint shows the victims told officers that Esquivel had repeatedly told them they’re worthless, they have no purpose in the world and that they are dumb and ugly.

She is charged with four counts of assault for engaging in a pattern of child abuse; domestic assault by strangulation; malicious punishment of a child; and eight misdemeanor domestic assault charges.
