After finding out last month that it would receive a large grant to help advance infrastructure at the North Port Industrial Park, North Mankato is moving to the next phase of the project.

Officials have given the green light to send out bids to extend water and sewer service to the site, making the land ready to be developed. The main extensions will take place west of Lookout Drive from Carlson Drive to Timm Road.

“Estimated project cost is $825,000. This includes the construction as well as engineering,” said City Engineer Dan Sarff.

The Business Development Infrastructure Grant totals just over 394-thousand dollars and the City Council committed to matching 50-percent of the project costs.

Planned upgrades will also provide water service and fire protection to the Blue Star Power Systems building as well as future industrial development sites north of Timm Road.

Work at the North Port Industrial Park is expected to start this spring.
