A North Mankato man is accused of stealing a wallet from a vehicle in February and racking up 500-dollars worth of attempted charges on the victim’s debit card.
According to court documents, 19-year old Tyler Paul Wetzel made the charges at various Mankato businesses before the victim contacted the bank and reported it stolen. Police say they reviewed surveillance video and interviewed store employees that identified Wetzel as the suspect.
Officers later arrested Wetzel on other non-related outstanding warrants.
Authorities say that the suspect claimed his friend stated that the card belonged to his mother and that the friend must have stolen the wallet.
Wetzel is facing a Felony and Gross Misdemeanor charge for Financial Card Fraud.
