After an investigation that began last year, a North Mankato woman as now facing five counts of credit card fraud, after the Mankato Department of Public Safety says the 26-year-old used a debit card of a group home resident to make personal purchases.
The investigation determined that Labria Woods was attending an employment orientation at the group home and was also the girlfriend of employee Daniel Baker.
The criminal complaint shows that Woods used the stolen card to buy fast food, liquor, gas, and items at a discount store.
In an interview with police, Woods admitted to making the fraudulent purchases, and trying to do so three other times but said the card was declined.
Woods claimed she was using a gift card she bought on Craigslist for $75, which the seller claimed had a balance of around $500, and she thought the deal was, “A steal.”
Investigators say she couldn’t explain how that gift card linked back to the client’s bank account.
