(Mountain Iron, MN) — Two St. Louis County Sheriff’s deputies are being cleared after shooting and killing a young man in Mountain Iron late last year. The St. Louis County Attorney’s office released a statement yesterday saying Ryan Smith and Matt Tomsich had to use deadly force in the situation. The two deputies shot and killed 19-year-old Estavon Elioff following a chase that ensued after Elioff allegedly robbed a local business in early December. The incident was investigated by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and underwent a two-tier outside review, with findings concluding that the shooting was authorized by the law.
