Mankato Police scuffled on Sunday with a Minnesota State University – Mankato wrestler they say was drinking underage and behaving inappropriately in public.

The MSU Mavericks website shows that Kinney was redshirted for the 2016-17 season, and in 2017-18 posted a 2-5 record wrestling in open tournaments, including coming in fourth-place in the Luther College Open. He is majoring in aviation.

Officers say 20-year-old Etienne Kinney, a native of Alaska, was seen urinating outdoors with a large group of people nearby. When confronted, police say Kinney began to walk away and refused orders to stop.

When the officer caught up to Kinney and caught him by a backpack he was carrying, the criminal complaint shows the student began to physically resist. The officer was able to pull him to the ground but says Kinney got immediately back up on his hands and knees and evaded techniques being used to try to restrain him. A second officer arrived to help get Kinney into handcuffs.

A preliminary breath test showed a blood alcohol level of point-1-1-9.

Kinney is facing preliminary charges of obstructing the legal process, running from police, indecent exposure, underage drinking, and disorderly conduct.
