A new proposal in the Minnesota Senate would extend the time between driver’s license renewals from four years to eight years. The Senate Transportation Finance and Policy committee is considering the bill, along with one that would change fees collected for license transactions. The fees for in-person driver’s license transactions would be cut in half, while the cost of a new application for a REAL ID compliant or enhanced license would be doubled. The new requirements would take effect August 1st.
