(Windom, MN) — Purrington Prairie outside of Windom, Minnesota is set to become one of the state’s newest Scientific and Natural Areas. The 40-acre remnant of native prairie that has never been plowed is a former cow pasture. The designation will protect the ecosystem that is home to a large population of threatened bush prairie clover. The Purrington family donated the pasture to the state in 2019. It is one of two new study sites in the state.
