The Region Nine Development Commission is hosting a Connect Rural Broadband Summit next week.
Executive Director Nicole Griensewic Mickelson said it will include, “Bringing in different specialists that will share success stories of how they have been able to package different grants.”
State and federal officials will also offer insight into funding possibilities, and she said, “The Office of Broadband from DEED will be there to share what resources they have available through their grants as well as Brad Finstad, the state director for USDA Rural Development, will be there to explain what’s possible at the federal level and what’s the initiatives coming down the line. We’re also really privileged to have (U.S.) Senator (Tina) Smith there as a scheduled speaker.”
Griensewic Mickelson said area internet service providers will explain the specific broadband technologies they use. “We’re going to have Blue Earth Valley Communications, Consolidated Communications, Jaguar Communications, and MVTV, talking about the new technologies and how they’re going to use it to form different community partnerships.”
The summit is next Thursday at the South Central Service Cooperative in North Mankato from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Registration is $25 and includes lunch. Griensewic Mickelson said the event is filling up fast. Tickets can be purchased through the Region Nine Development Commission’s website.
