Region Nine Development Commission will host a Connect Rural Broadband Summit this spring.
Officials say it’s part of a continued commitment to improving broadband access for businesses, households and other organizations in the nine county region, which includes Blue Earth, Brown, Faribault, Martin, Le Sueur, Nicollet, Sibley, Waseca and Watonwan counties.
Executive Director Nicole Griensewic Mickelson said broadband access was a fundamental issue to be addressed in the organization’s Economic Development Strategy.
In Region Nine, 24.9 percent of all households were under the state broadband goal of 25 Mbps download/3 Mbps upload speeds in 2017, and building and improving broadband infrastructure across the region can be a catalyst for local economies.
The summit will take place on Thursday, April 5, 2018 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at South Central Service Cooperative in North Mankato.
