Local and top state officials on hand yesterday for ribbon-cutting on the much-anticipated upgrade of Highway 14 between Dodge Center and Owatonna in south-central Minnesota.  Governor Tim Walz says before the update, that stretch of road was “notorious”:

“(I) was coaching 7th grade basketball on a cold winter day when my next-door neighbor… walked in with two state troopers and pulled her son… off the court to let them know their father… had been killed, leaving behind three small children and a grieving widow, on a highway because of its design and because of its outdatedness.”

Walz says the road is now state-of-the-art and will serve that area of Minnesota for the next 50 years.   He says the Highway 14 partnership is a model for how to get things done.
