The owner of an area roadside assistance company is charged with felony credit card fraud, after Mankato Police say a customer was charged more than $2,000 to fix a flat tire in January.

The criminal complaint shows that 33-year-old Rodrigo Bowman quoted the customer $258, and the victim gave the owner of Riggs Roadside Assistance his American Express number so that Bowman could purchase a new tire.

Investigators say Bowman bought the tire at Tires Plus, and the victim’s credit card statement showed the tire store billed nearly $1,900 for one tire, and Riggs Roadside Assistance charged almost $540.

Bowman told detectives in an interview that he did not authorize the tire store to use the victim’s card to pay for maintenance on a truck he owned, but would take the blame for it.

Staff at Tires Plus positively identified Bowman as the person who manually entered the credit card number into their machine. They also said Bowman first tried to pay for his outstanding bill with a check that did not clear and then a credit card that was declined.
