Just like athletes announce their commitment to play sports at the next level, South Central College is gearing up for a signing day for students who plan to enter a technical program at the school.
The 3rd Annual Technical Letter of Intent Signing Day will be held on February 15 from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on the Faribault and North Mankato Campuses.
Dean of Student Affairs at South Central College Judy Zeiger says this year they will award 50-thousand dollars in scholarships.
“This is a way to celebrate our students going into technical programs. So, this year we’ve added the scholarship portion to it, which is also a great incentive for students.”
The funds will be focused on high demand technical career areas that include advanced manufacturing, agriculture, healthcare services and information technology.
“I think there is great opportunity. We also want students considering these fields to know what great paying jobs there are within them as well. So, on our website there’s lots of information about the career fields and average salary going in to those. If it’s a two-year degree, there is a lot of opportunity and then later if students want to continue into a four-year program, there’s those opportunities as well.”
Technical programs at South Central College make up about half of the student population.
The deadline for interested individuals to apply is February 1.
