The future of the school resource officer program in the Mankato Area School District will be discussed at a meeting of the district’s board of education this evening. Superintendent Paul Peterson says the program has been in place for quite some time

“It’s been a long-standing partnership with the Mankato Department of Public Safety,” said Peterson. “That partnership resulted in three police officers designed to the school district. They spend most of their time at East, West, Central, and Prairie Wind.”

Peterson says it was important for the board to hear from the community on the issue

“We had a lot of sessions at schools, one was done virtually, to ask people what they thought”, said Peterson. “There’s a national narrative regarding police in schools and we wanted to hear what the people of our district had to say.”

The meeting will begin at five-30 and attendance is available through electronic means
