Governor Tim Walz has called a special session to begin Friday. State lawmakers will be addressing the governor’s executive powers, bonding and police reforms. Minneapolis Senator Jeff Hayden says he and several of his Democratic colleagues are willing to hold up the bonding bill if action isn’t taken in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death…

“Hopefully, we don’t have to use this lever, and it doesn’t have to look like us holding votes, hopefully, my friends across the aisle, hopefully that’s not a big lift, but if it is, we’re ready to do that and get in the way so justice can start to be served and we can start to heal.”

Hayden says funding to cover costs for local businesses impacted by recent unrest and police reforms are top priorities of the special session.
