An $825-million bonding bill for state public works projects didn’t have enough votes to pass the Minnesota Senate Wednesday afternoon, with all Democrats voting “no”:

“It’s just too small. There’s too many things not in it. It’s not that there is bad stuff in it, it’s just too small,” said Senate Democratic Minority Leader Tom Bakk. He added that they’ll work on a bill that will pass the Senate between now and Sunday.

Senate Republican bonding point-man, Rochester Senator Dave Senjem said, “Maybe there is some way to work with them in some light fashion but I don’t think in a pronounced way we’re going to work with them. We’ve got money limitations.”

The deadline for the legislature and governor to agree on a bonding bill is midnight Sunday.
