U.S. Senator Tina Smith has put together an Agriculture Advisory Group as she prepares to help craft the upcoming farm bill.
Smith said, “It is such an important part of Minnesota’s economy and Minnesota’s history and also our future. As we work on writing the new farm bill, I wanted to be sure I heard from a great diversity of voices from Minnesota’s agriculture.”
The group represents a wide array of agricultural interests and Smith explained, “So, we’ve got folks like Kevin Papp and Gary Wertich from the Farmer’s union and the Farm Bureau, but we also will have folks from research and extensions and people who work with beginning farmers, to help them get into farming.”
Senator Smith said she and her advisors will begin meeting next week as lawmakers prepare to devise a new farm bill, likely in March.
