U.S. Senator Tina Smith says she wishes Vice President Mike Pence would’ve of worn a mask yesterday (Tues) during his visit to Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Smith says this is a good time for elected leaders to be leading by example:

“The clear recommendation is for doctors and public health people are that masks will help all of us from inadvertently spreading the virus because we could be infected even though we don’t feel ill.”

The Mayo Clinic said in a Twitter post that it had informed Pence of its policy mandating masks before he toured the facility. Pence said he did not need to wear a mask because he is tested regularly for the virus, and does not have it. He added “And since I don’t have the coronavirus, I thought it’d be a good opportunity for me to be here, to be able to speak to these researchers, these incredible health care personnel, and look them in the eye and say ‘thank you.’ “
