It was a rough weekend for motorcyclists on Minnesota roads, with at least one fatality in several crashes involving bikes.
The fatal crash involved alcohol and Minnesota State Patrol says it happened Friday night in the Brainerd area. Minnesota State Patrol says 55-year-old Frank Westerlund was killed when his motorcycle rear-ended another bike after the driver was forced to hit the brakes hard.
Troopers also say 35-year-old Aimee Kiefer of Faribault was attempting to merge onto Highway 52 from Highway 14 in Rochester when she lost control and laid down her motorcycle in the lane of traffic on Sunday. She suffered non-life threatening injuries.
In addition, reports show that an Apple Valley woman was injured when her bike made contact with a barrier wall on I-535 in Duluth on Saturday. An Isle man was hurt when MSP says he failed to negotiate a curve on Highway 27 in Mille Lacs County and crashed into a ditch. A Farmington couple was injured in Dodge County in a crash with a car that officers say happened at an intersection in Hayfield. On Friday, on Highway 169 near Jordan, a man suffered life-threatening injuries after Troopers say his bike rear-ended a car.
