Fire crews worked for several hours to put out a fire at the CHS processing facility in Mankato on Thursday, which was called in just before 5:00 p.m.
Mankato Fire Deputy Director Jeff Bengtson said, “We got called to CHS inside an oil tank. It was a smoldering fire. We were on scene for about two hours.”
Bengtson said it was a challenging fire to put out and, “Our biggest issue was just getting access inside the tank. The fire was caused by welding, and I don’t know that we’re really going to have a damage estimate; the tank had already been emptied for work inside the tank.”
There were no injuries reported.
