A southwestern Minnesota school district is closed until Monday due to an outbreak of the flu.
Wabasso School Superintendent Wade McKittrick posted a video on the school’s Facebook page Wednesday night making the announcement.
He said on Monday there were 53 students and nine staff members sick with the flu. On Wednesday, the number of student cases rose to 74. That’s about 20-percent of the student population.
“I apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause,” he said, “However, we believe this action is prudent for the wellbeing of our students.”
Flu activity is considered widespread across Minnesota. Updated flu numbers come out later Thursday.
