Build more affordable homes in Minnesota — that’s a major thrust of recommendations by Governor Mark Dayton’s special task force on housing.

Officials are talking about tax incentives and dedicated funding from the state, but Minnesota Housing Commissioner Mary Tingerthal stresses, “This is not a plan that simply calls for government spending. It is a very broad-based plan that calls for looking at… problem-solving and private sector investment.”

The administration has little say in new policies because Governor Dayton’s term ends this year. But Dayton argues ample affordable housing is necessary for Minnesota’s future economic growth.
