A St. James man has been charged with murder in the shooting deaths of his wife and stepdaughter on Saturday.
Police say 59-year-old Scott Engelbrecht and his 67-year-old wife Joyce were arguing after he forgot their anniversary. Joyce was found in the home with a gunshot wound to the head. She died at Mayo Clinic in Rochester the following day.
The criminal complaint shows that Engelbrecht’s 43-year-old step-daughter Rachel Linder was found dead on the front steps of a neighbor’s home with gunshot wounds to the back, arm, and head.
When police arrived he was in the yard with a .22 rifle and told the arresting officer “something to the effect of ‘I shot her’ or ‘I did it,'”
Engelbrecht was charged Monday afternoon with two counts of second-degree murder and one count of felony assault with a dangerous weapon.
