A St. Peter man is accused of causing a string of damage behind him in a drunken drive through Mankato.

Mankato Police say 23-year-old Alex Willson first hit a stop sign and a parked car near North Broad and Spring Streets and drove away in a dark SUV with heavy front-end damage. Later investigators say Willson hit other objects near the Oleander Saloon.

When an officer attempted to Willson over, with lights and sirens, the criminal complaint shows he continued to drive but eventually hit the curb turning onto Madison Avenue and stopped.

After a high-risk stop, Willson was handcuffed and taken to the Blue Earth County Jail, where officials say he failed field sobriety tests and blew a point-2-0 on a breath test. Because of the high level of intoxication police say Willson was taken to a detox facility.

Preliminary charges include two counts of drunk driving, leaving the scene of a crash, and having open bottles of alcohol in the car.
