State lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are pushing for legalization of sports betting in Minnesota in the upcoming legislative session. Democrat Zach Stephenson of Coon Rapids says he’s heard from people all over Minnesota who want to engage in legal sports betting.

“And in fact, many Minnesotans are already engaging in sports betting, the fact that we don’t have legal sports betting in Minnesota, doesn’t mean that we don’t have sports betting in Minnesota, it just means that Minnesotans who want to engage in sports betting do so on the black and grey markets.”

On the Senate side, Republican Roger Chamberlain of Lino Lakes says “you work hard for your money, and if you want to place a little money in support of your favorite team, you shouldn’t have to drive to Iowa or use an international gambling app to do it.”
