A Mankato student is charged with drug possession after Mankato Police were called to the school by the principal, who told officers 19-year-old Hunter Nystrom brought a pair of nunchucks to school.

School officials said he wasn’t using them in a threatening manner but was showing them to students and staff. Weapons of any sort are not allowed in schools in the district.

When police arrived and searched the bag that contained the nunchucks they also discovered an electronic nicotine device and flavored cigars and investigators said the vape smelled of marijuana.

The criminal complaint states that Nystrom admitted to a school official that he was high.

The vape tested positive for marijuana oil and Nystrom is charged with drug possession but police said the school did not request charges regarding the nunchucks.
