A small group of students from metro area schools is staging a “sit-in” at the office of State Senator Warren Limmer Monday.

South High student Ben Phi said he and his fellow students are seeking, “Stricter gun legislation. Not necessarily taking away guns, but making it harder for people who don’t need to have guns.”

Senator Limmer, who chairs the Judiciary and Public Safety committee, did meet with the students briefly to hear their concerns. Phi said, however, “I feel like we didn’t really get through to him that well because he was really like dodging the question at hand and not really addressing what we were really talking about. He talked about how there was a need to redistribute school funds towards school security measures, but the empirical record shows that those haven’t really helped.”

Fee says the students plan to stay in place until around 6:00 pm Monday.
