Minnesota's suicide crisis hotline is preparing to shut down at the end of the month following financial shortfalls. Rochester Police add social worker as mental health calls rise

A Minnesota police department has hired a social worker to help de-escalate situations as mental health calls rise. Minnesota Public Radio reports that social worker Megan Schueller has been helping Rochester police handle mental health issues through the department's pilot program that launched last year. Schueller gives officers information at the scene or on the phone about solutions to mental health crisis that doesn't involve jail or a hospital. Johnson hopes to secure funding for pilot project for at risk youth in Mankato School District

A local lawmaker is working to secure funding for a pilot project in the Mankato School District that would increase mental health support for at risk youth. The project would be administered by Blue Earth County Human Services to implement functional family therapy for students from 11 to 18-years old.
