Minnesota Lawmakers introduce $50 per-acre tax credit for buffer land

The financial burden on farmers for implementing Minnesota's Buffer Strip Law may be eased by a proposal in the Legislature. Under the new bill in the House and Senate, farmers would receive a 50-dollar per acre credit for eligible farmland that was converted to buffers. Numbers show southern Minnesota led the way in record year for corn yields in 2017

Recently released numbers from the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service shows that it was a record year for corn yields in southern Minnesota. Estimates show that the statewide average for corn yields in 2017 was 194 bushels per acre, exceeding the previous record of 193 bushels per acre that was set in 2016.
