Four art projects in the works for North Mankato as part of public art initiative

An initiative for more public art and placemaking projects in North Mankato is taking shape through a partnership with Twin Rivers Council for the Arts. Both entities entered into a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday night for Twin Rivers to handle the contracts for specific projects. The City committed 5-thousand dollars for the first phase of the initiative to cover the cost of up to five projects, along with a 500-dollar consulting fee to Twin Rivers. Waseca and St. Clair receive funding from MnDOT for planning safe routes to school

MnDOT has awarded 225-thousand dollars in Safe Routs to School grants and two area communities have receiving a portion of the funding for planning assistance. Sam Parker with Region Nine. The City of Waseca and the St. Clair School District were awarded grants on Tuesday. MnDOT received applications from more than 63 schools in the state and handed out 12 grants. MnDOT to conduct aerial mapping this spring in preparation of three area road projects

Work will start later this month on mapping out several locations in south-central Minnesota as MnDOT prepares for road improvement projects. This spring crews will conduct aerial mapping along Highway 19, from Gaylord to Highway 169, Highway 4, from Martin County Road 26 near Sherburn to Highway 68 and Highway 22, from Mankato to the Minnesota River Bridge in Saint Peter. MnDOT holds meeting on HWY 14 four-lane expansion from Nicollet to New Ulm

Area residents met with the Highway 14 New Ulm to Nicollet Task Force on Thursday afternoon to dive into early draft concepts aimed at redesigning the ten to twelve mile stretch of roadway to four lanes. North Mankato saw sizable increase in development in 2017

It was a busy 2017 for development in North Mankato as it added nearly 29-million dollars worth of property value. The End-of-Year Planning and Zoning report shows that building permits totaled 1,168, up 64 from 2016.  Industry and Commercial permits lead the way with 84 and single-family developments totaled 19. There were six new condos/townhomes permitted along with three new apartments or assisted living facilities.
