Rochester Police add social worker as mental health calls rise

A Minnesota police department has hired a social worker to help de-escalate situations as mental health calls rise. Minnesota Public Radio reports that social worker Megan Schueller has been helping Rochester police handle mental health issues through the department's pilot program that launched last year. Schueller gives officers information at the scene or on the phone about solutions to mental health crisis that doesn't involve jail or a hospital. Man injured after taking large fall off roof in rural Blue Earth County

Authorities responded to a medical call on Monday afternoon after a report that a man fell off a roof in rural Blue Earth County. The incident occurred just over two miles south of Rapidan on Harvest Road and scanner audio indicated that the man fell about 30-feet. The Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office tells KTOE News that the man was flown to St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester with serious injuries.

New Ulm man in serious condition after reportedly shooting himself in rural Mankato

Authorities report a New Ulm man suffered serious injuries after reporting that he accidentally shot himself on Sunday morning. The Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office reports 26-year old Andrew Timothy Wong was found seated in his car near the intersection of Highway 22 and County Road 90 around 9:20 a.m. Wong told first responders he was attempting to drive himself to the hospital after accidentally shooting himself at a park while looking at a friend's gun.  He was treated at the scene and later airlifted to St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
