Saint Peter Council and School Board eyeing $160,000 worth of enhancements at new park

Officials with the Saint Peter City Council and School Board attempted to hammer out final details on Monday as both entities plan to launch Community Spirit Park into the next phase of development. The plan for the 100-acre park near the new High School will be to provide recreational opportunities for students and residents, with nearly 160-thousand dollars in improvements later this year.  Saint Peter Schools Superintendent Paul Peterson called the meeting a really important step. Surdy to run for Ward 5 seat on Mankato City Council

West Mankato resident Taryn Surdy has announced she intends to run for the Ward 5 seat on the Mankato City Council. Surdy made the announcement on Monday and expressed interest in pushing for environmental sustainability, having oversight of planning and zoning issues along with supporting working class neighborhoods. The Waseca native currently works as a school-linked Mental Health Practitioner in Waseca County. She was appointed to the Mankato Public Safety Committee in 2017. Current councilmember Trudy Kunkel has indicated that she won't run for re-election for the Ward 5 seat.
