Relay for Life of Blue Earth County changes venues in 2018, event this Friday at Sibley Park

Relay for Life of Blue Earth County will be held this Friday at Sibley Park in Mankato starting at 6 p.m. With recent upgrades at Erlandson Park, the event is undergoing a venue change from the traditional location, according to American Cancer Society Senior Community Manager Rick Jeddeloh. Kiwanis Holiday Lights to donate $62,000 back to non-profit organizations

It was a record setting year in 2017 for the Kiwanis Holiday Lights at Sibley Park. Officials announced on Tuesday that 62-thousand dollars will be donated to the 78 non-profit organizations that assisted with the event. In 2016, 60-thousand dollars was donated back to volunteer groups.  Over 165-thousand people attended the free event in 2017 with 12.87 tons of food being collected for 16 area food shelves. The 38-night event had 2-thousand 312 volunteers that put in 12-thousand 729 hours. Volunteers helped install over 1.5 million energy-efficient LED lights throughout Sibley Park.
