Remains of missing Sleepy Eye man possibly found on Sunday

Authorities in Brown County say a citizen using a rest area on Highway 4 near the Cottonwood River may have found the remains of a Sleepy Eye man that has been missing for nearly two months. Around 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, the Brown County Sheriff's Office was contacted after the person observed a gun, clothing and what appeared to be bone. With high water on the Cottonwood River suspending the search and recovery efforts for a missing Sleepy Eye man, the Brown County Sheriff's Office is continuing search efforts by air. Search by water south of Sleepy Eye for 73-year old Vincent Mathiowetz was halted on June 11 due to strong currents, which made boat navigation nearly impossible. Work on Highway 14 in Sleepy Eye pushed back to Wednesday

MnDOT has pushed back the start date for construction on Highway 14 in Sleepy Eye due to the weather. The project was supposed to start Monday, but weather has delayed crews from beginning work until Wednesday. The delay has pushed back the completion date to July 5. The one-week closure is part of a 3.4-million dollar resurfacing project that started in May to allow city utility work on Main Street at 12th Avenue. Two men arrested after report of burglary in rural Sleepy Eye

Two New Ulm men were arrested on Friday afternoon after the Brown County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a burglary in progress in rural Sleepy Eye. According to the report, 39-year old Jason Adams Gehl and 39-year old Clinton James Zeitz were found leaving the residence with items that didn't belong to them when authorities arrived at the scene. The search for a missing Sleepy Eye man is being suspended due to the Cottonwood River being over flood stage. The Brown County Sheriff's Office reports the search and recovery effort to find 73-year old Vincent Hugo Mathiowetz has become nearly impossible due to recent rains. Brown County Authorities report a missing Sleepy Eye man has still not been located after further search efforts on Wednesday. According to the report, Deputies and K-9 tracking dogs concentrated efforts approximately 3-1/2 miles south of Sleepy Eye and the Cottonwood River to search for 73-year old Vincent Hugo Mathiowetz who went missing on Sunday. Woman taken to the hospital following crash in Brown County

A Sleepy Eye woman was hospitalized Monday morning after an icy crash northwest of New Ulm. The Minnesota State Patrol reports 28-year old Keren Linan was driving eastbound on Brown County Road 29 when she lost control of her vehicle on the icy roadway. Authorities say the car entered the ditch and rolled over shortly before 10 a.m.  Linan suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to the New Ulm Medical Center.
